Working independently, the Manager, Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting manages the SEC reporting function and the accounting for technical areas of the business, perform technical accounting research, and evaluate and provide recommendations to senior management regarding complex accounting issues and transactions.  This role reports to the head of the Financial Reporting team and will partner extensively with others in corporate accounting, finance, tax, legal, treasury, human resources and IT. Associate will interact with his or her supervisor as needed by either. Most activities are completed without a supervisor’s advance approval.


• Prepare and manage the process of all SEC filings, including 10-K/10-Q, XBRL, 8-K’s and Proxy Statement

• Manage the day-to-day responsibilities of two senior accountants and perform related supervisory/review duties, including review of 10-Q/10-K support, month-end close journal entries and account reconciliations

• Perform technical accounting research for various areas including goodwill, share-based compensation, revenue recognition, debt or other financing transactions, segment reporting, foreign currency and other matters and prepare related white-paper documentation

• Monitor FASB and SEC developments to identify and document the potential impact of new pronouncements or other authoritative guidance and manage the implementation of the related accounting and disclosure requirements

• Manage and document the results of quarterly and annual impairment analyses for goodwill and other intangible assets (ASC 350)

• Assist in performing due diligence for acquisitions, preparing purchase price allocations and coordinating with external valuation firms

• Review, update and draft accounting policies related to critical/complex accounting estimates

• Complete special projects and prepare analyses for senior management requiring technical accounting research and analysis of financial information as requested

• Review the multi-currency statement of cash flows

• Review quarterly reconciliation of shares outstanding and calculation of basic/diluted EPS, including an evaluation of the dilutive impact of equity-based awards with performance conditions

• Coordinate with external auditors to support the year-end audit, quarterly reviews, benefit plan audits and other statutory audits

• Assist in updating the SOX controls and process narratives for the Financial Reporting department to ensure compliance with SOX

• Perform other duties related to the financial reporting process as needed.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related, accredited field required; at least two years of related work experience may be considered in substitution

• CPA certification required

• 5+ years of experience in a public accounting firm and/or a multinational public company environment. A combination of industry and Big 4 experience preferred.

• Experience in SEC Reporting and/or Technical Accounting required

• Supervisory experience required

• Experience with multi-currency statement of cash flows, in-house filing preferred

• Hyperion and Great Plains experience preferred


• Demonstrated ability to research and interpret accounting guidance and draft accounting memos to support conclusions

• Strong U.S. GAAP acumen and understanding of accounting and financial reporting matters affecting public companies

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively interface with multiple levels of management, are critical to success in this role

• Exceptional analytical skills

• Strong understanding and hands-on experience with XBRL

• Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint

• Attention to detail and data quality control — effective at researching issues and problem solving,

• Possess proficient analytical, problem solving and decision making skills,

• Communicate and convey clearly information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message,

• Must be able to work extended, non-traditional hours as needed during peak periods such as month-end close, quarter-end reporting, and annual budgeting preparation,
