SUMMARY
While under supervision, the Merchandising Summer Intern, will be exposed to multiple aspects of a merchant role. The Merchandising Intern will be assigned to one of GameStop’s Merchandising teams and will have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on multiple team projects and support activities, while learning the merchandising process and product lifecycle.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with team members to deliver projects on time
- Gains a basic understanding and working knowledge of the buying process including exposure to product selection, ordering process, coop marketing, and weekly promotion selection, proofing, and analysis
- Gains a basic understanding of the merchandising planning process and merchandise financial strategy under pre-season planning and in-season re-forecasting
- Gain a basic understanding of reporting analysis tools, in-season management, along with markdown and promotional strategies
- Gains a general understanding of merchandise costing, logistics processes, and retail negotiations and collaboration with vendors
- Develops management skills, including managing multiple project or tasks, demonstrating initiative, and ability to produce good work results through and with the Team
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in an undergraduate or graduate program
- Classified as a Senior in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of internship
- Business related field of study such as Merchandising, Retail Management, Business Administration, Finance or Accounting preferred
- A documented GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Must be at least 18 years of age and present state-required proof of age documents
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrate desire to learn the merchandising process and product lifecycle
- Demonstrate proficiency to analyze reports and draw conclusions and recommendations
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and be detail oriented.
- Demonstrable verbal, written, organizational, and professional skills
- Demonstrable proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools
- Prior experience in the retail or gaming industries
