Job Description



Working with general supervision, the Inventory Planner is responsible for planning and managing an assigned category of business.  This position is responsible for Model/SKU forecasting and analysis for specific categories to drive inventory plans that meet key business objectives and financial goals.  They need to align with Merchant/Buying team’s assortment vision while mitigating risks, optimizing sales, profitability and turns. This role closely monitors sales, margin, and inventory to maximize opportunities throughout the year. They also forecast sales and margin at a top line perspective, analyzing weekly sales and margin trends. In addition, associates in the role uses analytical thinking, communication, cross function partnerships, curiosity, and time management to succeed in this role. Associate may interact with his or her supervisor several times a week, perhaps daily, to receive guidance and feedback. Some non-routine activities may require a supervisor’s advance approval.


•        Develop and maintain seasonal plans and manage in-season reforecasting for all assigned Category SKUs against the open-to-buy (OTB) plan

•        Analyze key item trends, adjust forecasts, receipts and inventory levels as needed to support plans

•        Collaborate with the buying team in building and managing the assortment planning process. Utilize historical analysis to capitalize on opportunities and to mitigate risks.

•        Manage OTB activities and attend monthly OTB meetings with forecast/actual sales, receipts and markdowns

•        Utilize planning tools to generate and analyze performance relative to plan for sales, margin, inventory and turn

•        Analyze historical data and current trends to identify risks and opportunities to business and recommend strategies to achieve financial goals; conduct hindsight analysis to incorporate learnings into current & future plans

•        Recap and analyze actual sales results to plan and forecast in-season business on a weekly, monthly and annual basis

•        Recommend SKU offering to merchandising based on recap analysis

•        Analyze current trends to recommend markdown strategy to Merchandising partners

•        Participate in the annual budget & forecast planning

•        Bachelor’s Degree

•        2 years’ work experience in retail inventory planning and allocation


•        Displays attention to detail; with strong analytic and organizational skills

•        Proficient knowledge of Windows-based business computers and Microsoft Office programs; specifically, Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word

•        Proficient ability to communicate effectively with others using spoken and written English

•        Proficient ability to work collaboratively with others; conduct working relationships in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization

•        Proficient ability to remain effective under stress, and respond to pressure in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization

•        Demonstrated ability to model customer-focused behaviors leading to outstanding customer experiences
