Job Description



The Senior Accountant, Revenue, is a critical member of the U.S. Accounting team, participating in creating, analyzing, and reporting timely and accurate financial information for management and investors. Working independently, the Senior Accountant, Revenue performs accounting functions which directly impact video game brand sales and gross margin including revenue recognition; vendor cooperative advertising; gift card program and various customer liabilities.  This position will report to the Manager, Global Revenue and will also work closely with others in corporate accounting, finance, external reporting, merchandising, tax, legal, treasury, external and internal auditors, and IT.


  • Work closely with our merchandise and accounts receivable teams to ensure vendor cooperative agreements are recorded accurately
  • Record monthly sales journal ensuring accurate financial impact for revenue, cost of sales and liabilities related to our video game brand sales
  • Perform accounting for customer liabilities including, but not limited to, gift cards, trade credits and reservations
  • Perform the reconciliation process between our third-party gift card processor and our General Ledger balance
  • Help perform a detailed review of staff accountant’s balance sheet reconciliations and journal entry support
  • Proactively research accounting guidance pertaining to assigned areas and ensure all accounting is in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Document account procedures and accounting treatment for assigned areas
  • Build, develop, and sustain productive cross-functional relationships throughout the organization
  • Work with business partners on new programs that may impact sales to understand flow of information and determine appropriate accounting treatment
  • Work collaboratively with department members to identify process improvements that lead to more accurate, efficient, and sustainable department outcomes
  • Support the ongoing updating and testing of Sarbanes/Oxley 404 controls as process changes occur or as new risks are identified
  • Model the high level of customer service expected of all GameStop associates including responding to voice mails and emails within organizationally defined timeframes, completing projects as committed, responding to others’ feedback appropriately, and making optimal use of organizationally limited resources by offering assistance to other functional teams when appropriate
  • Assist in special projects and reports as needed within the general scope of this role
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis as request by management
  • Prepare audit schedules and assist the auditors in their inquiries
  • Maintain strict confidentiality required of company financial data
  • Display excellent verbal and written communication to internal and external customers

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience required
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • CPA certification or candidate preferred
  • SOX experience preferred

  • Working knowledge of Dynamics GP (Great Plains) preferred
  • Proficient project planning skills, including the ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities in order to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities
