SUMMARY

Working with general supervision, the BP&A Merchandising Senior Analyst is responsible for providing accurate, timely forecasting and analysis to SSC office partners. The principal business outcome of this position is to increase profitability of our product categories through forecasting and analysis of sales and inventory. In addition to technical and analytical expertise, this associate possesses strong communication and planning skills and will routinely communicate with and respond to all levels of office management. Associate may interact with his or her supervisor several times a week, likely each day, to receive guidance and feedback. Most non-routine activities may require a supervisor’s advance approval.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Review financial results and key metrics of domestic sales and inventory, ensuring that management is provided with reporting and analysis to measure performance and identify opportunities
  • Create detailed financial plans and forecasts for assigned product categories, in partnership with business owners, by identifying drivers and variances from prior year, plan and forecast, and articulate recommendations that will improve future results
  • Create detailed financial models to evaluate new business opportunities and upcoming promotions
  • Evaluate performance of promotions and initiatives with test/control methodology
  • Support improvements in bottom-line profit and sales growth through modelling and analysis
  • Deliver reporting and analytical support for assigned product categories and business owners
  • Demonstrate a consistent commitment to service by prioritizing requests and responding quickly to feedback
  • Work collaboratively with others within and outside of his or her function to achieve goals, simplify processes, reduce costs, prevent loss, and to ensure that work is completed safely, accurately, and on time

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Finance or Business program required
  • Accounting acumen and working knowledge of principles and practices required
  • Experience with Hyperion Essbase, IBM Cognos, and APT preferred
  • 2 or more years of experience in retail analytics with proven ability to dissect business issues, analyze root causes and provide possible solutions in a simple yet compelling manner to internal customers

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Proficient knowledge of financial concepts and tools (sales and inventory forecasting, financial statements, break-even, sensitivity analysis, NPV, ROI, etc.)
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint with proven expertise in data management tools. Visual Basic knowledge a plus.
  • Proficient knowledge of technical modeling skills.
  • Proficient ability to effectively and accurately enter, retrieve, analyze, recognize discrepancies, organize,

  • Flexibility to work extended, non-traditional hours as needed during peak periods, such as annual planning processes and/or to meet deliverables
  • Proficient ability to work collaboratively and professionally across departments and supervisory levels
  • Proficient ability to communicate effectively in English with upper management and co-workers, including the ability to deliver effective presentations as needed to small groups within the organization
  • Proficient project planning skills, including the ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities in order to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities
