Working independently, the Senior Network Engineer plans, designs and develops local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization, participating in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This position will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems and provide end-user training.  The principal business outcome for this position is the stability and integrity of GameStop’s data network services.  This senior level role is characterized by increased levels of independent work to be performed, more complex engineering work, elevated extent to which process recommendations are expected, increased experience levels required, and mentoring responsibilities.  An associate in this position may interact with his or her supervisor as needed by either. Most activities can be completed without a supervisor’s advance approval.  Mentoring and leading team activity is a key skill to this role.
 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Design cost-effective data communications solutions to meet new and evolving requirements; plan and execute the installation of new networking components to fulfill business requirements
  • Support the design and analysis of LAN/WAN/WLAN network improvements and enhancements
  • Provide analysis to support performance tuning and capacity planning
  • Provide troubleshooting and problem-solving support for network issues
  • Monitor system hardware and software and manage system performance
  • Determine capacity and performance planning goals
  • Maintain documentation of network configuration, operating procedures, and records relating to network hardware and software
  • Manage projects directly related to the area of assigned responsibility and other general network projects
  • Serve as technical consultant on architectures for internal networks
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise to other network engineers and IT department team members
  • Support additional department projects and initiatives as needed

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience required
  • At least 8 years’ experience in network engineering required — experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting client server networks preferred
  • CCIE, MNE or similar network engineering certification preferred
  • Experience with SAFe methodologies, Cloud, Hybrid-Cloud, SDN, security standards such as PCI and SOX

  • Proficient knowledge of Windows-based computers and Microsoft Office programs; specifically, Excel, Outlook, Project and Word

  • Proficient ability to monitor, troubleshoot and maintain network systems and solutions to ensure efficient operations; working knowledge of protocol analyzers and network monitoring software preferred.
  • Proficient ability to manage enterprise IP addressing schemes
  • Proficient knowledge of enterprise LANs, WANs, WLANs, VoIP and other networking technologies required
  • Deep understanding of IETF/IEEE Standards-based networking protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSFP, IPSEC, and other networking protocols
  • Proficient knowledge of networking hardware including Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, VPN, application acceleration and management platforms required; specific knowledge of load-balancing platforms such as F5 and Citrix preferred
  • ​Proficient knowledge of Palo Alto / Fortinet Next Generation Firewalls
