Working independently and strategically, the eCommerce Director is responsible for the majority of the publicly facing GameStop branded technology properties and how they are perceived by GameStop customers and shareholders. It is the Director’s job to ensure that GameStop online and mobile application properties maintain a high-level of reliability and are technologically competitive, secure and reliable. This role demonstrates an intense passion for technology and scalable architectures, evident in his or her recommendations and decisions. The role is tasked with successful completion of projects on time, scope and budget.  The Director interacts frequently and collaboratively with diverse levels of responsibility throughout the organization.  In addition, this role is responsible for establishing a team culture that is defined by transparent communication, high integrity, business acumen, engineering expertise and technical innovation.  Role interacts with a supervisor as frequently or infrequently as needed by either. Most activities of this position are completed without management’s direct supervision and or approval. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Work strategically with other leaders to design and deploy GameStop’s online technology strategies, including the identification of related business objectives, budget and other resource requirements, and related performance metrics.
  • Lead strategic long-range planning and forecasting to achieve or exceed company requirements and objectives, within industry accepted standards and best practices
  • Leverage expert technical expertise to build and deploy software products and actively participate in the functional requirements definition stage for projects.
  • Achieve or exceed GameStop’s high customer service expectations at all times.
  • Identify, track, and report meaningful performance/progress metrics, and support the team with achieving performance goals
  • Work with development managers to create performance dashboards, SLA’s and scalability metrics to ensure a continual focus on the quality of all web properties with the goal of driving to a better consumer experience.
  • Serve as a thought leader related to the non-functional requirements of software by continuously thinking about how to make software more reliable, configurable, scalable, robust, sustainable, secure, and resilient.
  • Create, otherwise provide substantive input related to the creation of, and achieve CAPEX and OPEX budget requirements.
  • Onboard and manage critical vendors as well as maintaining those relationships and partnerships.
  • Hold third-party providers strictly accountable for their results and the related protection of proprietary and confidential information.
  • Adhere rigorously and consistently to all GameStop policies and procedures related the use of contract talent.
  • Drive outstanding business results through traditional management functions including, but not limited to, sourcing and selecting talent, coaching and development, workforce and project scheduling, performance assessment, and general talent planning.
  • Direct the online technology function in accordance with the established policies and guidelines — collaboratively design and deploy new policies and guidelines as needed
  • Manage contract offshore groups of consultants

  • Collaborate with development managers to document and refine development standards across the organization.  These standards consist of but are not limited to standards for the development lifecycle (including agile best practices), code quality, version control, unit testing, code reviews, release planning, code branching, release, deployment and any other best practices defined by the organization.

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

  • Bachelor degree (or academic equivalent) required, with an accredited program in general information systems, information technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration or an advanced technology-related degree; Master of Science in Information Technology or Master of Business Administration preferred
  • At least 10 years of experience in Information Technology including a minimum of 5 years at the Manager level or above
     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Proficient ability to communicate effectively with others using written and spoken English including the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback to team members
  • Expert ability to manage teams of engineers, managers, and director level technologists.
  • Knowledge of high volume Retail E-Commerce experience preferred
  • Experience managing and deploying AWS-hosted applications preferred
  • Demonstrable expertise with leading software engineering functions that delver outstanding software product, with frequent release cycles (Agile), which directly impact a company meeting its business goals
  • Proficient knowledge of employee development: talent assessment, competency-based development, motivation and reward
  • Proficient ability to effectively recruit, hire, coach, train, develop, retain, and redirect others as needed in order to produce a successful team
  • Expert ability to create and deliver impactful and persuasive presentations to technologists and non-technologists with varying levels of responsibility
