Job Description



Working independently, the Director of Income Tax – Domestic will direct activities undertaken by the Tax Department. This position will ensure that all domestic income tax related accounting, compliance and reporting are accurate and comply with all internal controls and applicable federal, state, and local, laws.


•         Conduct review of financial statement tax provisions, accounts and disclosures for accuracy and compliance with ASC 740.

•         Directly manage the filing of all periodic income and franchise tax returns for all of GameStop’s domestic entities and provide oversight for international entities.

•         Directs income tax audits and controversies, including meeting with tax advisors and governmental officials, developing strategies, preparing documentation and negotiating settlements.

•         Assist with research, analysis, development and implementation of tax strategies to minimize effective tax rates.

•         Assists in identifying, analyzing and implementing tax planning opportunities including for M&A activities, investments, borrowings and business expansion.

•         Manage the outsourcing of the property tax function and unclaimed property function.

•         Manage Tax Department associates in alignment with GameStop's global talent development and retention strategies.


•         Information Monitoring – Collects and reviews tax information needed to manage the department and ongoing activities within the department.

•         Decision Making – Identifies and understands issues, problems, and opportunities by comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions, then takes action that is consistent with available data by developing appropriate solutions.

•         Technical/Professional Knowledge and Skills – Achievement of a satisfactory professional level of tax and accounting knowledge; Understands the retail industry and tax laws that affect it; Stays abreast of current developments and trends in all relevant accounting areas.  Requires experience and excellent technical knowledge around acquisitions, divestures, and business combinations.


•         Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in Accounting

•         Minimum 10 years in tax with a large public accounting firm or equivalent experience in a corporate environment, with a minimum of 5 years as a Director/Sr. Manager leading ASC 740 provision and federal and state compliance

•         Strong written and oral communication skills

•         CPA required

•         Experience using OneSource a plus but not required

•         Experience in a retail business a plus but not required


•         Proficient knowledge of ASC 740 and SOX requirements

•         Proficient with Microsoft Office software programs, especially Excel and Word

•         Proficient communication skills with all levels of the company

•         Ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities in order to meet deadlines, working independently.

•         Adaptable to changing priorities
