Working independently, the Director, Strategic Planning will be accountable for establishing and managing the Enterprise Strategic Management Office. Associates in the role will build close partnerships with executives and senior leaders and will own the governance and coordination of all major strategic initiatives.  Through partnerships with executive sponsors and cross-functional working groups, associates in the role will guide the end-to-end process for initiative execution from ideation through commercialization, ensuring business-driven results and transformative outcomes. Associates will interact with his or her supervisor, senior leadership and matrixed leadership partners as needed to build consensus surrounding key strategic initiatives and drive their flawless execution, including capital and resource allocation and return on capital measurement.  Most activities are completed without a supervisor’s advance approval. This role is generally characterized by high levels of enterprise-level scope; strategic, functional, and relational complexity, and a high level of independent decision making.


  • Responsible for managing the end to end execution of core strategic / transformation initiatives across the business
  • Quickly and effectively understands strategic initiatives, inherent challenges and competing priorities while collaborating with business leaders to translate these into programs/projects with tactical goals and objectives that are measurable
  • Partners with the Transformation Office leadership in developing, creating rigor around and leading the strategic consulting process from ideation through execution
  • Responsible for business and financial, operational and administrative aspects of program/project performance (i.e., contractual, administrative, deliverables management, program performance metrics and financial management)
  • Program manage assigned strategic initiatives, critical programs/projects and work efforts to ensure scope is clear, milestones are met and measured; risks are assessed and mitigated, and budget is adhered to. Acts as an escalation point and oversees audits & reviews of portfolio, program, and project execution to ensure compliance to agreed standards
  • Directs, coaches, and mentors assigned resources and subject matter experts to define scope, project governance, budgets and project plans, and co-produce project artifacts such as charters and documentation needed for funding approvals

  • Accredited Bachelor’s degree with a related field of study required; Master’s degree with a related field of study preferred
  • 7 or more years of related experience required, with at least 3 years of experience as a manager with direct reports
  • At least 7 years of experience in program / project management and with demonstrable success in large strategic projects required


  • Demonstrable experience in strategic program management; experience across the many facets multi-unit retail business is preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of Windows-based business computers and Microsoft Office programs; specifically, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project and Word
  • Proficient project planning skills, including the ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities in order to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities
  • Ability to effectively coach, develop, retain, train, hire, and discipline others in order to produce a successful team
  • Expert ability to communicate effectively with others using written and spoken English including the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback to team members
  • Expert relationship building skills, including the capacity to predict and manage behavior, build and leverage cross-functional partnerships within and outside of the organization, and leverage influential leadership
  • Proficient ability to manage emotionally-charged disagreements through consensus building, relationship management, and the formation and presentation of logical, business-based arguments
  • Expert ability to assertively solve strategic problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Expert knowledge of employee development: talent assessment, competency-based development, motivation and reward
  • Expert ability to effectively recruit, hire, coach, train, develop, retain, and redirect others as needed in order to produce a successful team
