Job Description



The IT Operations Analyst takes an operational role within the 7 x 24, 365 day staffed IT Data Center/OPS Control Room.  This position works on projects, attends meetings, interacts and works with incident management and quick response teams, in addition to the basic monitoring and operating of IT production systems and job schedules, as well as peripheral equipment. This role will require independent and collaborative decision-making skills which will result in major impact to the business and its customer base. This position also interacts with his or her supervisor several times a week, perhaps daily, to receive guidance and feedback. This position will require the analysis of complex technical data and the relay of this data to resolving teams; in addition to communicating with business stakeholders on business and customer impact.


  • Provide for continuous monitoring of systems, processes, and job schedules in the IT production environment.
  • Provide 1st & 2nd level problem resolution support for system/job errors, communication failures, hardware failures, & other processing anomalies
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and tactful manner with coworkers, leaders, and members of other teams
  • Ability to work in close quarters for up to 16 hours at a time
  • Comfortable with addressing large groups over the phone or in person to relay technical or other data and answer questions in a professional and concise manner
  • Provide physical support of data center assets; executing equipment power cycling, mounting, cabling, and installations
  • Record details of issues, and as necessary, escalate appropriately to support groups & defined levels of management
  • Produce a written turnover log and handoff of shift events
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Perform scheduled and special requests for jobs, backups, restores, and media
  • Provide access security for computer room by ensuring all sign-in sheets and logs are maintained
  • Participate in Change Control on a weekly basis
  • Work on projects as assigned by Operations Management
  • Communicate and effectively work with vendors
  • Decommission servers and monitor the Data Center environment
  • Assist IT Operations management in the deployment, design, and general efforts of ITIL processes across the enterprise and under close supervision of the IT Operations leadership team
  • Provide leadership and act as a moderator during critical incidents as directed Ability to learn and understand network, application, and infrastructure topographical schematics and leverage this data to identify collateral impacts and resolving teams.
  • Identify and record gaps in process and/or runbooks and report such gaps to IT Operations leadership
  • Comfortable with starting and stopping appliances, applications, and or application components upon direction and approval from authorized personnel
  • Investigation and escalation of any and all alerts or warnings withing the monitoring and alerting toolset
  • Willing to work in a 24/7/365 environment and adapt to a fluctuating schedule as workload demands arise

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance or a related field required; additional work experience may be required in substation
  • At least 2 of years’ experience working in an enterprise data center operations environment 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • A+ or Network+ Certification preferred


  • Proficient knowledge of AS/400 systems; Windows 2003 Servers; MS SQL; .NET; as well as MS-DOS, batch programming, and use of various protocols such as FTP, telnet, SSH, etc.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience working in a Data Center environment
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities in order to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities
  • Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing priorities with promptness, efficiency and ease
  • Possess accurate typing and data entry skills
  • Ability to work with confidential documents and maintain their confidentiality Proficient ability to communicate effectively with others using spoken and written English Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others , including a willingness to achieve team goals
  • Proficient knowledge with Legato backup systems and UNIX is preferred
