A Digital Principal Architect is an experienced architect with expertise across multiple architectural domains, addressing end to end solutions and identifying opportunities to shape the future of the omnichannel business through technology. Working independently, the Principal Architect, Software provides technical guidance for the planning, design and architecture to development teams and oversees the architectural aspects of projects delivering systems and applications in an enterprise environment.  This position interacts with a direct leader as needed to receive guidance and feedback.  High degrees of autonomy and decision making will be necessary but may require leader’s advanced approval. Develops standards and roadmaps, assesses new technologies for investment, and articulates the transition from current to future state in consideration of the future needs of the business, security policies and requirements, and striking an optimal balance between standardization, customization, innovation, costs and risk management.


  • Lead in-house or virtual architecture teams to deliver world-class, cutting edge, scalable enterprise systems and applications
  • Mentor others in the best practices of systems and applications development
  • Create comprehensive application designs that address the needs of key stakeholders from the business, solution delivery, and operations areas.
  • Collaborate with team members across Omni Channel and IT
  • Guide the design and enforcement of software development procedures and processes
  • Provides technical solutions to the business, leveraging technical expertise, a broad understanding of the current and future application and infrastructure architectures, and an awareness of GameStops’s key strategies and objectives.
  • Plays leadership role in architectural planning for GameStop Omni as well as support IT initiatives at advisory capacity.
  • Develops highly sophisticated technology plans requiring integration of multiple technologies, and interrelationships of multiple systems serving diverse customers.
  • Provides technical advice to Omni project teams in the design and support of complex, major

systems that have broad implications for the overall Omni architecture.

  • Develops architectural standards and roadmaps to migrate to standards that will add significant value to the business. Promotes the architectural vision to  colleagues, explaining the ultimate value to be achieved, and resolving conflicts between standardization and innovation.
  • Leads evaluation of new technologies in areas of responsibility. Proposes technology investments supported by a thorough technical analysis, proof of concept and business case.
  • Serves as a coach and mentor to less experienced members of the business unit. Delegates tasks as appropriate.


  • Bachelors degree with a regionally accredited program or 5+ years relevant work experience
  • 12+ years of related experience. 17+ years for educational equivalency
  • Must be available to work after hours and weekends as needed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, write, and interpret complex business and technical documents.
  • Very strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, including ability to recommend investment in new technology based on appropriate ROI and/or cost benefit analyses and recommend strategic direction for long term spending.
  • Strong partnering/relationship building skills, including ability to identify benefits to be gained and get the support needed from senior management.
  • Strong leadership skills, including ability to effectively participate in decision making process on key project issues.
  • Demonstrates expertise of multiple domains across the applications and technical architectures, including the inter-relationships and interfaces between systems and technologies.
  • Maintains thorough understanding of leading edge technologies and their applicability for the current and future architecture.
  • Understands business needs along with key GameStop Omni strategies and trends, and factors this knowledge into planning for the future of the applications and technical architectures.
  • Develops highly sophisticated technology plans that require the integration of multiple technologies, addressing the interrelationships of multiple systems, and serving diverse customers.
  • Analyzes systems and processes from end to end, assessing how data travels and is used from multiple perspectives. Effectively analyzes the most challenging cross-technology and cross-platform issues.
  • Provides technical advice and counsel to technology project teams in the design and support of major systems of the most complex nature and which have broad implications for the IT architecture.


  • Masters Degree is preferred
  • Past experience in Retail Ecommerce and SFCC platform is preferred
