The Senior Creative Copywriter guides and writes creative, retail focused, customer-facing copy, and consumer communication campaigns across GameStop channels. The Senior Creative Copywriter also develops and maintains messaging direction and execution across internal and consumer channels to execute business objectives and organizational and departmental strategies. Working with general supervision, the role works collaboratively with creative partners, business teams, and external partners to ensure that copy, art, and business goals join to create communications solutions that meet objectives and represent a consistent organizational voice and brand presence.


Associates in the role take tasks from initial concept through final release, including related research. The principal business outcome for this position is to create meaningful and effective communication experiences for customers, as well as consistent voice and tone, resulting in greater consumer interest and engagement with GameStop across all channels and demographics. An associate in this position will interact with his or her supervisor as needed as well as work closely Marketing and other internal departments to assure key business objectives and overall communication direction is aligned and on mark. Most activities are completed without a supervisor’s advance approval.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*


  • Develop and guide a consistent voice and style for written materials in print and web, as well as creating and maintaining copy templates and style guides for ongoing use in marketing-based communications
  • Maintain standards in customer-facing written content, ensuring consistently high quality information.
  • Write and develop creative concepts across media display advertising, print advertising, direct mail / direct response, email marketing, print advertising, collateral, etc. for PowerUp Rewards campaigns and consumer communications initiatives.
  • Collaborate with partner departments to ensure consistency of voice and tone across in-store, social, ecommerce, digital and other customer-facing GameStop channels; coordinate related collaborative activities.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert regarding the gaming industry and culture; research related trends
  • Proofread and edit a wide range of scheduled and unscheduled marketing materials daily for clarity, style consistency, spelling and grammar.

  • Gather, organize, analyze, summarize and respond favorably to frequent and substantive feedback from others

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)


  • At least 4 years of post-secondary education in Journalism, Marketing, Communications or equivalent experience required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • At least 6 years’ experience in an agency or corporate department conceiving and writing copy for online promotions, banners, landing pages, websites and emails for a consumer-oriented product/service. Related experience in a multi-unit retail environment preferred
  • Portfolio of writing samples and examples of prior work required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES


  • Expert ability to communicate effectively with others using spoken and written English — bilingual English/Spanish communication skills preferred
  • Expert knowledge of writing for consumer communications for display in application and web-based email clients
  • Expert editing and proofreading skills
  • Displays a genuine passion for writing and creative expression
  • Strong interest in video games preferred
  • Proficient organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple, overlapping, and potentially conflicting priorities.
  • Proficient ability to meet demanding, evolving and frequently overlapping deadlines.
  • Proficient ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels within the organization, as well as external resources and vendors.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs, especially Excel, PowerPoint and Word; expert knowledge of Mac and PC-based Word preferred
