Working independently, the Senior Store Systems Engineer is responsible for hardware evaluations, defining hardware specifications and the architecture, security and management of the operating system of computing platforms located in our retail stores. Platforms located in the stores include Windows XP/7 based PCs such as Point of Sale systems, customer facing kiosks and digital signage as well as Apple iOS mobile Point of Sale systems. Senior Store Systems Engineers work on a variety of projects including hardware and OS research and evaluation, designing processes to manage and support business initiatives, OS image process design and management, design and creation of automation and tools through scripting and/or program development and software deployment to store systems. This position requires a mastery of the Windows operating system and the ability to provide in depth root cause analysis on complex issues affecting the stability, supportability and security of the platforms located in our stores. This role interacts as frequently or infrequently with a manager as needed by either. Most routine activities may be completed without a manager’s prior approval.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

• Partner with the store systems development team, other IT groups or business units to identify hardware/OS design, support and software requirements and design and implement solutions that meet or exceed the requirements

• Design, develop and implement solutions for internal customers (store employees, help desk, project logistics, hardware depot teams, etc) that minimize support costs and maximize up-time and employee productivity. Solutions may include automated jobs, software tools, process and workflow definition, etc.

• Work with software and hardware vendors to identify, evaluate, recommend and implement solutions for use and integration into production, test, and QA systems to meet business needs, reduce costs, reduce incidents, and increase productivity.

• Ensure the operating system configuration is optimized for stability, performance and security and ensure compliance with PCI regulations

• Maintain and optimize operating system images and deployment processes

• Maintain and optimize the software deployment process to ensure it can be used consistently with minimal risk of human error

• Provide documentation to other IT teams (help desk, project logistics, hardware depot teams, etc) on solutions provided to empower them to maximize the solution’s value and reduce support incidents

• Provide in depth root cause analysis and resolution on complex issues affecting store systems

• Mentor Store Systems Engineers to grow the capabilities of the Store Systems Engineering team

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

• High school diploma or GED required; one of more years of accredited college study preferred

• At least 5 years of systems engineering experience in a Windows XP and/or Win7 environment consisting of 500+ workstations required

• Must be able to work additional hours and weekends as business needs require

• Must be able to participate in a rotating “on-call” rotation and accept calls after hours and on weekends

• Microsoft Certification in at least three areas related to the position,  MCSE or MCITP preferred

• Other Certifications such as A+, Net+, Cisco preferred

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Proficient project planning skills, including the ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities in order to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities

• Expert knowledge of Windows 7 or POSReady 7

• Expert knowledge of WMI, Windows Installer, local and group policy and other low level Microsoft technologies to remotely manage client systems

• Expert knowledge of scripting using VBScript, PowerShell, etc

• Expert knowledge of Operating System deployment methods

• Expert knowledge of Software packaging and deployment methods

• Expert knowledge of Application and OS patching methods

• Proficient knowledge of coding and compiling executables using tools such as Visual Basic, C# or an equivalent

• Proficient knowledge of performing SQL queries

• Proficient with technical writing with the ability to create and maintain documentation of support instructions and processes

• Working knowledge of retail store systems

• Working knowledge of how to build web interfaces using HTML, ASP, ASP.NET or an equivalent preferred

• Working ability to use one or more of the following products; MDT, Remoteware, BigFix, Tivoli preferred

• Working ability to remain effective under stress, and respond to pressure in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization

• Proficient ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others; conducts working relationships in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization
