Working independently, the Senior Project Manager works collaboratively and cross-functionally with others throughout the organization to manage field-focused operational projects and to lead process improvements that enable stores and multi-unit leaders to deliver better business results through task reduction, prioritization, optimal payroll utilization, and other efficiencies related to building a culture focused on Solution Selling. The role serves as the Store team’s principal efficiency expert, providing thought leadership and hands-on execution for a broad range of process improvement initiatives. He or she prioritizes the tasks that are requested by various functional groups against the stores available capacity and Store Operations’ strategy to drive profitable, topline sales. Principal business outcomes for this role are to reduce operational complexity and to build overall store profitability. The role interacts with a supervisor as frequently or infrequently as needed by either. Some non-routine activities may require a supervisor’s advance approval. The role is generally characterized by a moderately high levels of scope, functional and relational complexity, and independent decision making.


  • Work regularly in a large variety of stores to experience task management and operational process improvement opportunities
  • Focus aggressively on identifying store complexity reduction opportunities throughout the field organization
  • Lead field-focused operational projects and special initiatives from concept to practice, including working closely and collaboratively with senior leaders throughout the organization
  • Develop and manage an internal SSC process to collect, evaluate, prioritize and approve store task requests from various SSC functional groups, field leaders and executives
  • Partner with relevant functional groups to ensure stores can schedule associates in GO Time in an optimized manner to execute the tasks coming up that week and more importantly take care of all the customers expected to visit the store
  • Gather, organize, analyze and summarize frequent and substantive feedback from store associates, managers, and multi-unit leaders; prepare related recommendations
  • Interpret store performance data to identify principal process improvement opportunities; create highly visible means for measuring breakdowns and work cross-functionally and collaboratively with teams to identify and implement improvements
  • Identify, track, and report meaningful performance/progress metrics, and assist the operations team with achieving performance goals
  • Stay abreast of all store operations trends and developments across the retail industry
  • Synthesize ideas from the business analytics, visual merchandising, field communications, and general operations teams and then make actionable recommendations to drive consistent, well aligned operational execution
  • Prepare compelling, data driven presentations to internal audiences with varied operational expertise
  • Serve as one of the Store Operations team’s key liassons for Human Resources, Loss Prevention, Marketing, Merchandising, and Information Technology teams
  • Participate regularly in cross-functional meetings, including market conference calls, the holiday planning committee, and others as needed
  • Develop best practice and networking relationships with similarly focused roles in other non-competing retail organizations

  • Developing program plans and schedules to ensure proper coordination between all program elements, multiple departments, key stakeholders, and the senior leadership team
  • Monitoring and communicating the status of cost, schedule and task completion to ensure transparency and alignment with business objectives
  • Provide routine communication regarding project status and coordinate with multiple leaders, business owners, and staff to ensure ongoing alignment
  • Conducting effective day‑to‑day communications with all project stakeholders and business owners
  • Coordinating and manage routine status meeting updates and facilitate other project meetings as needed
  • Planning, coordinating and managing the preparation of presentation materials for internal reviews
  • Managing the conduct of such meetings and reviews
  • Preparing regular status reports, to all stakeholders, which provide visibility for program issues and risks
  • Developing templates, business cadence, and culture of collaboration, coordination and communication with stakeholders and senior leadership team
  • Assisting in the preparation of fact-­finding and negotiations to ensure completeness from a program management viewpoint
  • Assisting teams in achieving program initiatives
  • Develop project schedule, contingency plan, resource estimates, financial tracking and adhere to and follow a defined project management process

  • Bachelor’s degree with an accredited program in business administration, management, logistics, operations or a similar professional discipline required; Master’s degree or Six Sigma, CEI, CBPP, or comparable business process improvement certification preferred
  • At least 2-5 years of experience in project management
  • Preferred PMP (or equivalent certification, or willingness to become certified)
  • Past experience working with executive leaders


  • Proficient knowledge of general project planning, including initiation, planning, execution, control, and closeout
  • Expert relationship management skills, including the ability to balance complex, competing organizational interests
  • Expert awareness of the distinctions between stores including, but not limited to, sales velocity, trade volume, loss prevention risks, customer diversity, geographical influences, and other factors that may affect operational efficiency
  • Expert ability to work under demanding time constraints and production goals
  • Expert knowledge of store-level training/development programs and processes
  • Expert ability to gather and scrutinize data to identify issues, opportunities, patterns, and sustainable business solutions
  •  Proficient understanding of the field communications function
  • Proficient understanding of payroll planning and allocations
  • Proficient ability to communicate effectively with others using spoken and written English — bilingual English/Spanish communication skills preferred
  • Proficient personal work planning skills, including the ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities in order to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities
  • Proficient relationship building skills, including the capacity to predict and manage behavior, build and leverage cross-functional partnerships within and outside of the organization, and leverage influential leadership
  • Proficient presentation skills to present information to an audience of varying responsibility within the company effectively

Proficient knowledge of Windows-based business computers and Microsoft Office programs; specifically, Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project and Word
