Summary

Working under general supervision of the Senior Buyer, the Videogame Buyer/Merchant develops and executes retail strategies for the videogame product lines which are assigned to him/her.  The principle business outcome for this role is to maximize GameStop’s market share and profitability in the assigned product lines.  The Buyer/ Merchant will work within a business team to achieve these objectives and will execute daily tasks as well as be responsible for strategic thought and planning within the assigned product lines.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to drive profitable sales and market share for assigned product lines
  • Manage purchases, reorders, full life-cycle pricing, and end-of-life inventory planning to support positive financial outcomes and minimize unproductive inventory
  • Negotiates promotions and exclusive product offerings to drive profitable sales
  • Provide primary point of contact with assigned suppliers, and create and grow positive working relationships with supplier partners
  • Develop compelling in-store, online, and other product presentations and promotions in conjunction with relevant cross-functional teams
  • Monitor market share through regular contact with suppliers and industry reporting, and develop and execute strategies to enhance GameStop’s market share
  • Forecast financial outcomes monthly, and develop strategies and processes to continually improve financial performance
  • Create and grow positive cross-functional working relationship with peers and others within GameStop
  • Provide financial recaps and status reports on a weekly basis as well as respond to ad hoc requests in a timely manner
  • Respond to store requests and inquiries in an accurate and timely manner
  • Understanding of Financial Statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
  • 55+ hour work week / 7 days a week on-call to support store needs and provide service for assigned product lines

Basic and Preferred Qualifications (Education and/or Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, merchandising, or a related field is required.  Additional education in retail merchandising, buying, marketing, and business analytics is preferred.
  • 5-7 years of retail buying experience required; closely related work experience may be used as a substitute.

  • • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs, especially Outlook, Excel, and Word; Expert knowledge and experience in Excel writing formulas and creating flexible, detailed, accurate spreadsheets errors in a professional manner, working collaboratively and cooperatively with others
