The Web Designer III primarily designs and develops email for GameStop and ThinkGeek, while also supporting web design and development. This position must stay current with new and emerging technology and keep abreast of industry best practices to assure effective web, mobile and tablet design through responsive design. This position works closely with copywriting, merchandising and marketing associates to ensure all email communications meet or exceed specific marketing objectives and brand initiatives. This position participates in all phases of the design and development process. This position serves as an expert technical resource for other team members. The principal business outcome for this position is to be a leading designer in creating effective creative experiences, high quality email and web experiences for customers, which result in greater consumer interest and engagement with GameStop in the interactive space, as well as creating profitable online shopping experiences measured by customer conversion rates and overall sales. This position will interact with a supervisor and project owners several times a day to receive guidance and feedback.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Support the production of creative needs as requested by other departments; offer design and usability advice and best practice recommendations to internal customers. Support multiple, potentially overlapping projects effectively in an environment with tight timelines.
  • Be a positive driving force for innovation in the interactive space.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of current web technologies and design trends, staying abreast of new technologies and trends in the online design community.
  • Leverage a proficient understanding of the creative development process by working closely with internal clients and other design professionals on the Creative Services team.
  • Collaborate with functional and creative leaders to identify and leverage design synergy between projects sponsored by brand management, merchandising, and marketing leaders.
  • Work directly with internal partners to understand objectives, provide accurate and timely updates and deliver creative alterations.
  • Integrate business requirements into all email creative elements as directed.
  • Manage relationships in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization within all parameters of the organization’s respectful workplace policies.
  • Model the high level of customer service expected of all GameStop associates including, but not limited to, responding to voice mails and emails within organizationally defined timeframes, completing projects as committed, responding to others’ feedback appropriately, and making optimal use of organizationally limited resources by aiding other functional teams when appropriate.

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

  • At least 2 years of post-secondary education in Fine Arts, Web Design, or equivalent experience required; Associate degree in Fine Arts or Web Design preferred
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of interactive design experience in marketing or advertising, or a relevant combination of education and experience
  • Online portfolio including examples of retail email and web designs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Expert knowledge of email design and development process
  • Expert knowledge of usability and online user experience design principles
  • Expert knowledge of organizational branding and its relationship to customer experience
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver
  • Expert knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3 (and previous versions) as well as building emails with tables to assure maximum email client compatibility
  • Expert knowledge of concept development, layout composition, site functionality, interaction, user interfaces, navigation, color theory, typography, and basic drawing skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office’s Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Proficient knowledge of JavaScript, jQuery
  • Proficient knowledge of supporting web application languages (XML, PHP, ASP, .NET, etc.)
  • Proficient ability to communicate effectively with others using spoken and written English — bilingual English/Spanish communication skills preferred
  • Proficient organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple, overlapping, and potentially demanding and conflicting priorities
  • Working knowledge of .NET framework environment
  • Working knowledge of the print production process (print margins, bleeds, color types and formats, binding practices)
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other professionals, including the ability to respond professionally to creative differences of opinion and to handle frequent feedback including multiple, potentially conflicting revisions and stress in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization
  • Ability to provide effective technical instruction and opportunities for observation to help others develop skills
